Our staff will gladly
look after your children when you need a break or a special outing.
You are also welcome to borrow our toy box during your stay.
Most banks open from 09h00 to 15h30 Monday to Friday, and 08h30
to 11h00 on Saturday. The nearest available ATM is at Standard
Bank on Loop Street. Please be aware that there have been attempts
at fraud. Should your card get jammed in the machine, do not
give your pin number to anybody. Also, do not accept assistance
from anyone while at an ATM, no matter how well-meaning their
intentions may seem.
The nearest available indoor machine is at First National bank
on St. Georges Mall, at the corner of Shortmarket Street, open
from 08h30 to 15h30. The nearest 24-hour access ATM is on Long
Street opposite the Baths, about 10 minutes walk from the hotel.
The duvets and pillow cases
are duck down. We also have synthetic pillows for those who suffer
from allergies. Our pillows are large - they are supposed to mould
to your head! If you prefer though, we do have smaller pillows.

Served between 7 am (for
the early birds) and 10.30 am (for those who are truly on holiday).
Our wonderful continental breakfast is complimentary, and we also
offer an exciting menu with cooked breakfast options. Our chef
is very creative and will surprise you in many ways: try her stunning
smoothies. We try to be as organic as possible and there are wheat-free
options. Her team will also accommodate any other dietary requirements.
A wide range of reading matter
is available in the library downstairs. There is a selection of
paperback novels, which you are welcome to exchange (but please
let us know). We also have a selection of coffee-table books,
which we ask that you please read in the lounges.
We can help organise car hire
for you. Cars will be delivered to the hotel and can be dropped
off either at the hotel or the airport.
We can arrange chauffeur
service to any required destination. We'll arrange transportation
to the airport for you at any time. Our drivers are early risers
so don't worry about organising early morning departures!
Check out is at 11 am
but at a minimal fee we may be able to offer a late check out.
However if that is not possible, we will happily look after your
luggage. In addition, we have safes in the office if you wish
to keep your valuables in a secure place while gallivanting around
Cape Town. We also have shower facilities downstairs for those
departing really late! Our reception is 24-hour, so you can settle
the bill any time of day or night.
We'll be more than happy to
post your postcards for you. The post office is somewhat less
than reliable. We therefore send your postcards through a private
company called PostNet. We can organise courier services to anywhere
in the world (just bear in mind that this is a more costly option).
All of the art, sculpture and
knick-knacks you see around the hotel are for sale.
Please ask reception if you would like to buy any of them.
Heritage Square is a vibrant setting with great restaurants
and bars - you can dine al fresco in the courtyard, or book
a table at one of our restaurants. The popular restaurants are
sometimes difficult to get into, so the earlier you make a reservation,

We have a doctor on call, 24
hours a day; just let us know if you need his services. Please
be advised that there is a call out fee.
Drinks and cocktails can be
enjoyed in the lounge, under the grapevine or on our roof deck
with a selection of cheeses and snacks.
There are DVD players in the rooms
- we have attached a list of DVDs in stock. We charge R25 for
hiring a DVD. Please return all DVD's to the reception desk, as
sadly there is a R300 penalty for DVD's not returned.
We pride ourselves on being an eco-friendly hotel; the soap
and shampoo you use are biodegradable, and many items in the
hotel are made from recycled materials, e.g. the chandelier
in the Summer Lounge. All the hot water in the hotel is heated
with solar energy.
May we encourage you to be sensitive and assist us in our efforts
to reduce wastage of precious resources: please keep your plastic
water bottles and have them refilled with filtered water for
free!
To save water and detergent and reduce pollution, we kindly
ask you to leave the towels you want to be replaced in the bath.
There is a master switch in the rooms, please turn it off when
you leave the room. This will switch off all the lights in your
room and bathroom.

If the bell sounds consistently,
for two minutes, please evacuate according to the evacuation plan
stuck to the back of your hotel room door. All the staff are trained
fire marshals and will be on hand to assist you should the need
arise.
We can help confirm your flights. With most airlines, you can
now make reservations / check-in / change bookings online. (There's
free Internet access downstairs.)

We change any major currency
at a competitive rate. We can't change too much, because we don't
hold too much, but we'll do what we can. Also, you can settle
your account in foreign currency on departure. The Zimbabwe Dollar
is not even worth considering, so don't try!
If you would like to purchase
our soaps and other bathroom amenities, they are for sale.

There's a Virgin Active gym only a 10 minute walk from the
hotel with all the facilities imaginable, including a 25 meter
pool. Hotel guests can make use of the gym facilities for a
fee. They do not supply towels, so take one from the room if
you don't have your own.
In addition there is a small gym: Eagleton Fitness (www.eagletonfitness.com)
and a Gyrotonics and Pilates studio (www.zelahstudio.co.za)
in Heritage Square itself. Both of them are run by excellent
Personal Trainers - you need to set up an appointment, so please
let reception know and they will do it for you.
Ierephaan, the charismatic hair
stylist of Cape Town, operates from Heritage Square. He can be
quite difficult to get an appointment with, but you never know.
Closed Sunday and Monday.
Your room is serviced
every day. Our linen is changed every second day for stay-overs.
Please dial housekeeping (ext. 138 if you would like a different
arrangement.
We have wireless Internet
access in all the rooms. There is a computer in the lounge from
which you can print.
We do in-house laundry, and
you can get it back the same day if you hand it in the morning.
If you need dry cleaning services, it will take a day longer.
Ironing can be arranged at a moment's notice.
We have two lounges: a cosy
lounge with a fireplace, where you can smoke and enjoy a drink;
and an information lounge, with books, information and Internet
access.
We're happy to keep your luggage
for you if you happen to have a late flight on the day you check
out. Also, if you'll be coming back to our wonderful establishment
at some future date, you may also leave your luggage here.
We have a variety of magazines
available in the lounge and breakfast room. Please take them to
your room if you so wish, but be kind enough to return them when
you're done.
We have one of the best masseurs
right here on Heritage Square. The massage can be done in your
room. He is highly recommended - book early in order not to be
disappointed.
You'll find these slipped
under your door, or by your bedside table.
Our very well stocked mini
bar is there for your comfort and convenience. We promote South
African products. Should you prefer a different wine, there are
more wines to choose from downstairs in the dining room. Our mini
bar baskets were handcrafted by the Society for the Blind.
The hotel has some spare mobile
phones, which can be used if available. We charge for the cost
of calls made. Please don't use it for international calls, it
may self detonate! Alternatively, you can buy a local SIM card
for about R10 and use a local network for all calls.
We get the local daily paper.
The Sunday paper has lots of useless gossip - local and otherwise.
We also receive a weekly publication with more international news
and an international paper. If there's a particular newspaper
you'd like to have, please let us know.
Please ask at reception for
info on the closest pharmacy and after hours pharmacies.
Parking is available in Riebeck Square. When you enter the
car park, take a ticket. When you want to leave, we let you
out with a special tag and charge your account. The hotel's
allocated bays are the last 3 before the exit barrier.
If these are full, please park in an unreserved bay as near
to the barriers as possible. Please do not park your car outside
the hotel at night.
For settlement of bills, we
accept cash and all major credit cards, preferably MasterCard,
Visa and debit cards.
We do prepare picnic baskets
- look at our in-room dining options. They are perfect for Kirstenbosch
Botanical Gardens- take in the exquisite scenery on a clear day,
or groove to their summer sunset concerts: a popular local institution.
Signal Hill is a great picnic spot with beautiful sunsets or sunrises
over the city landscape.

seek a private session. The studio is in Heritage Square. Please

South Africa uses 240-volt power
supply. All our rooms have international power points. In case
of a power failure - and yes, we have had one or two (please don't
panic!) - emergency fire exit lights will remain on and we'll
set up mobile emergency lights. There is an emergency flashlight
in your wardrobe next to the safe.

Each room is equipped with a
safe. Instructions are printed on the safe door (please do not
forget your code!). Anything too large, we can store in the safe
downstairs.
We can't emphasise this enough:
for the most part, South Africans desire only that you enjoy your
holiday. But please use your common sense. When walking around
town, stay only in the well-lit areas. Do not carry too many valuables
with you. Ask at reception for any other concerns you might have.
As a security measure we close the doors at 23h00 hours. Please
ring the bell if you arrive late and someone will open the door
for you.
The square has two exciting
shops: a boutique shop stocking South African fashionable products
- take a peek, and be surprised. Songololo Children is a funky
toy shop that stocks exclusive brands from Europe and US, as well

We have a smoking lounge.
However, all our rooms are non-smoking.
Living and working
in South Africa, we have decided to get associated with charities
and not-for-profit associations. We work with Zip Zap Circus School,
which aims to bridge gaps between children from different walks
of life. They also run an HIV outreach program with Medecins Sans
Frontieres. If you would like to visit, help, or enjoy one of
their performances, please let reception know. We also have a

Available at a moment's notice,

it up to your room for a small fee. We also serve tea and coffee
at 16:00 with a selection of home made cakes and a great selection
of organic cookies.
We have a sun deck on the
roof where you can relax after a busy day and refresh yourself
with sundowners and a dip in our Jacuzzi.

and we also have our own very experienced tour guide. We can also

It is generally appreciated in South Africa - in restaurants
a 10 to 15 % tip is expected (a service charge is only included
for large groups). The petrol attendants and parking guards
are usually tipped R5 to R10.
If you'd like to reward the staff because you think they deserve
it, please leave tips at reception. At the end of the month,
these are shared out equally. If you want to reward one specific
staff member, please leave an envelope with the staff member's
name on it.
There is an umbrella in
each room.
We have the oldest fruit-bearing
vine in the Cape. The grapes were harvested for the first time
again in February 2008. We will have an auction to sell the couple
of bottles and donate it to a worthy cause. Please ask if we have
a bottle available for your viewing. The
