Clifton: Bungalow 17, Clifton 3rd Beach

Clifton, probably the most famous beach in South Africa, attracts swathes of scantily clad locals and tourists onto its white sands and (less frequently) into its freezing waters every year. With Table Mountain and Lion's Head forming a spectacular backdrop and with good protection from the summer wind, it's no wonder it's considered one of the world's finest beaches. It quite literally bakes.

Though occupying one bay on Cape Town's Atlantic Seaboard, Clifton is, in fact, divided into four distinct beaches separated by rocky outcrops. The most southerly of the lot, and the largest and most accessible, is 4th Beach, which has Blue Flag status and attracts the biggest crowds; on sizzling summer days there's barely room to move, as bodies, towels and umbrellas cover the sand.

Third Beach on the other hand is less crowded in comparison, and is a smaller beach. Bungalow 17 is right on beach. Open your gate and tumble out of the garden onto the beach; or simply people watch from your front deck.

Proposed itenerary:

Day 1 arrive in Cape Town, weather permitting, Table Mountain, and city centre exploration
Day 2 depart after breakfast for a full day Cape Peninsula tour incorporating Kirstenbosch, Camps Bay, Hout Bay, Cape Point and Cape of Good Hope, Simons Town...
Day 3 Robben Island & The Waterfront and the Waterkant area
Day 4 a full day trip to the winelands: Stellenbosch, Franschhoek
Day 5 after a leisurely breakfast, depart for Clifton, enjoy a stroll on the beach and relax on the patio. End the evening with sundowners and a his and hers massage.
Day 6 Wake up to the sound of waves, have a late breakfast, and spend a leisurely day on the beach. End the evening with a traditional South African braii (either meat or fish)
